About us
The CUFC Lottery is run by volunteers (a Committee of seven long-standing CUFC fans) in association with Cambridge United Football Club. The Committee is as follows:
- Carl Badcock, Membership
- Jonathan Bowyer, IT
- Nigel Browne, Deputy Draw Master
- Dave Matthew-Jones, Promoter
- Nigel Pearce, Draw Master
- Philip Saich, Treasurer
- Brian Thorby, Deputy Treasurer
Aims
The CUFC Lottery aims to fund initiatives to ensure fans’ experiences at the Abbey Stadium are as memorable and pleasurable as possible, along with funding local charitable and community projects.
How does the lottery work?
Each member is issued with a unique four digit lottery number. There are two ‘£ (monetary)’ weekly draws, along with a midweek ‘prize’ draw on Wednesdays during the football season.
The Must Win Monday draw has four guaranteed winners of £100 every week. Using a random number generator the winning four digit numbers are drawn. The members holding the matching four digit numbers in the same order each win £100.
The Abbey Accumulator is drawn each Friday using the random number generator and, as with the weekly draw, the member holding the four digit number in the correct order wins the jackpot amount. If there is no winner, the jackpot increases by £50 each week until a maximum prize of £2,500 is reached, when it becomes a Must Win draw, ensuring at least one jackpot winner per year. Once won, the Abbey Accumulator resets to £500.
The Midweek Money Can't Buy is drawn each Wednesday during the football season, with the weekly winner receiving either a signed U's shirt, a pair of Signature Suite hospitality tickets, or an opportunity to present the league match ball.
On the day of each draw, winners are notified by individual email, and all members notified of the winning number(s) by email.
Please note: It is the member’s responsibility to ensure emails from cufclottery@ yahoo.com (primary mailbox) & info@cufclottery.co.uk (for receipt of results emails only) are not blocked, and members are encouraged to regularly check their spam/junk email folders. It is also the member’s responsibility to ensure their membership contact details (address, home and mobile phone numbers) are kept current, by emailing updates to CUFCLottery@yahoo.com.
How much is membership and what happens to the money?
Each lottery membership costs £2.00 per week, and you can enter as many times as you like. Payment can be made by Paypal, cash, cheque or bank standing order. Payments can be made monthly, quarterly, half yearly or annually.
The received membership costs are split as follows:
- Prize Fund: 47.5%
- Costs Fund: 2.5%
- Distribution Fund: 47.5%
- Local Charitable & Community Projects: 2.5%
The Prize Fund can only be used for prizes, so the greater the number of lottery memberships, the larger the prizes.
The Costs Fund is set aside to support the modest costs we incur. Although the CUFC Lottery is run by volunteers, there are costs for licences, printing, PayPal, website, postage, etc. We are grateful to Philip Saich and the Postscript team who sponsor the lottery, created the CUFC Lottery website and provide support and website updates free of charge. For any Cost Fund balance over £500, the committee, if in agreement, can at their discretion transfer the excess to any of the other Funds.
The Distribution Fund can only be used for projects that benefit the fans experience at the Abbey.
The Local Charitable & Community Projects Fund is available to support small one-off charitable causes in the vicinity of the Football Club.
Through the CUFC Lottery everyone can support both the Club and the local community, and have some fun whilst doing it!
Thanks for your interest, and good luck in the draw! If you're not yet a member, please do sign up here.
